MARY JANE by Amy Herzog Zoom Performance!

March 7, 2021 @ 7:00 pm

Topanga Actors Company presents: “Mary Jane” on Zoom, March 6 at 7 pm PST and March 7 at 7 pm PST
Alex is almost three. He loves goldfish, the superintendent’s dog, seeing his breath on a cold winter’s day. Alex has cerebral palsy. Amy Herzog’s deeply moving play about love and commitment features Alex’s mother Mary Jane and eight empathetic women who in different ways contribute to Alex’s care. There’s Ruthie, the superintendent of Mary Jane’s building, who just can’t resist giving advice. There’s Sherry, the warmhearted nurse; Brianne, Mary Jane’s Facebook friend; and Sherry’s niece Amanda, who thinks she is just visiting until…
Later we meet Dr. Toros, Alex’s forthright physician; an Hassidic mother, Chaya, who offers Mary Jane wisdom and clarity; Kat, a sympathetic music therapist; and a hospital chaplain called Tenkei, who appears the very moment Mary Jane needs her the most. Above all, there’s Mary Jane, whose strength, humor, and endurance are beautifully realized in Herzog’s portrait of an infinitely optimistic single mother.
