A Hike With the Malibu Democratic Club

June 2, 2024 @ 10:00 am

Sunday, June 2, 10 AM on the Fossil Ridge Trail. Following the hike, at 12:00 PM, we will gather for lunch
at the Reel Inn Restaurant, 18661 Pacific Coast Hwy. This hike promises LOTS of fossils and plenty of time to talk about the 2024 election with fellow Democrats.
You are welcome to attend one or both activities.

THE HIKE: Join us for a short, fossil-filled hike on the Fossil Ridge Trail (a section of the Backbone Trail) Meet at 9:45 AM in the Lois Ewen Overlook parking lot. Carpooling is recommended, as available parking spaces can be limited.

Directions to the trailhead: Take Las Flores Canyon Rd. for 3.4 mi. Turn right onto Rambla Pacifico St. After 0.7 miles turn right onto Schueren Rd. In another 1.8 miles, at the top of the pass where Schueren Rd intersects with Saddle Peak Rd and Stunt Rd, park in the parking lot for the Lois Ewen Overlook. This hike is considered easy. However, hiking paths are not paved and nature hikes inherently involve risk. Wear hiking boots or other shoes with good traction, bring hiking poles if you want them, wear long pants as we may encounter poison oak, and your own water. We will hike to the end of this section of the BBT and back, which takes about an hour and a half.
