Topanga Actors Company returns to live performances at the Topanga Library with a staged reading of Laura Wade’s THE WATSONS, adapted from an unfinished novel by Jane Austen. This sparkling new play by a prize-winning British playwright audaciously takes on a mystery Austen’s fans have puzzled over for a couple of centuries, what made Austen give up writing The Watsons?
Laura Wade’s unquestionably quirky sense of humor and ability to create memorable characters earned her the 2019 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy for Home I’m Darling. The Guardian hailed the London production of The Watsons, calling it “a stunning play.”
TNT’s readers may remember the unquestionably successful staged-reading of Tennessee Williams’ A House Not Meant to Stand in March 2020. The previous September Topanga Actors Company presented a full weekend of original Ten-Minute plays to capacity audiences. Covid-19 meant a change of direction, to full-length productions on Zoom ending in late October 2021.
The company is excited to be back at the library. (Please note that this program is not sponsored or endorsed by the LA County Library.) Working under Stephen Hoye’s direction, fourteen Topanga Actors Company members energetically realize the script in this latest of TAC’s signature staged readings.
Coming up: December and January 2023 productions and a full season of plays thereafter. To get in touch, email [email protected]
