The holiday season is traditionally storytelling season, and Topanga Actors Company is reviving that tradition for eighty minutes of readings from eminent fantasy writers. You’ll find their individual takes on Christmas to be both unexpected and a little bit surreal. Forget the holiday gift lists; simply sit back and enjoy being read to by our company members and guests. It’s a great program for almost all ages (just please don’t bring really young children).
Elves, goblins and a talking Polar Bear populate J.R.R. Tolkien’s wonderfully fanciful Letters From Father Christmas. Ray Bradbury writes tenderly about a boy space traveler’s first Christmas. Who makes those outsized footprints? asks young adult writer Cynthia Felice. We’ll have more stories, including a sharp- and-sweet-one of Jeanette Winterson’s from her evocative Christmas collection. Seasonly, we’ll end the afternoons with holiday nibbles.
