There’s no better place to live out your best autumnal canyon life than on a Friday morning at the Topanga Farmers Market. The temperature is cooler, the sycamores are turning gold, and the market is overflowing with the colors, scents, and flavors of fall. The stalls are bursting with everything from apples and squash to persimmons, pomegranates, and fresh green.
The Topanga Farmers Market has everything for cozy autumn meals and canyon gatherings, and don’t miss our Holiday Markets on December 5, 12, and 19, featuring over 50 artisans and vintage collectors with an incredible selection of handmade and one-of-a-kind gifts, plus the ingredients and special treats for holiday hosting. Our farmers and food makers pour their hearts into their work, and it shows in every bite.
In just 20 months, our market has grown into a special community hub. We now welcome around 500 customers every week, and feature more than 45 sustainable, organic farms and local small businesses. Every Friday from 9 am to 1 pm, the market comes alive with neighbors connecting, kids exploring, and families filling their baskets with organic produce picked the day before.
When we started this market, our dream was to create more than just a place to shop. We wanted to build a gathering space, one that celebrates sustainability, creativity, and connection. We’re proud to say that together, we think we’ve done just that.
The Topanga Farmers Market is leading the charge in sustainability. Nearly every vendor has eliminated single-use plastics and switched to glass, compostable, or recyclable packaging. We’re still working to fully weed out single-use plastic bags, and we invite our community to join us in that effort. If this matters to you (and we know it does), please decline plastic bags when offered and bring your own reusable bags to carry home your produce.
Our farmers are growing food regeneratively, and we continue to look for new ways to lower our environmental impact while strengthening the local food system. We were shocked to learn that the average piece of food in the US travels 1,500 miles from where it’s grown to where it’s sold. Eating locally and buying directly from farmers markets is a powerful way to reduce your carbon footprint. Every decision we make, from vendor selection to market experiences, is rooted in care for the planet and for our community.
That spirit will be on full display on Halloween morning, when market patrons, young and old, come out in costume for a morning of trick-or-treating at the market. Pure Topanga magic: smiling kids, creative costumes, and farmers passing out healthy, low-waste treats! Moments like this remind us why we do what we do.
We’re also thrilled to share that this is just the beginning. Starting this month, we’ll be contributing a monthly column in the Topanga New Times, where we’ll highlight what’s in season and spotlight some of the incredible people behind the farms and small businesses that make our market so unique.
If you haven’t been to the Topanga Farmers Market in a while or have never been before we hope you’ll come join us soon. Parking is free and easy, and if you have mobility issues, just let our parking attendants know — they’ll make sure you find a spot up top.
Thank you, Topanga, for helping us grow something so special together. This market belongs to all of us and it’s your support that keeps it thriving.
We’ll see you Friday morning on top of the mountain.
Peace, Love and Produce,
Kate & Freddi
