Topanga Actors Company Presents The Year of Magical Thinking

A compendium of grief touched by humor and unusually vivid self-awareness. Who else but Joan Didion may write so eloquently about bereavement and then balk at giving away her late husband’s shoes?

On April 18th and 19th at 2pm, the Topanga Library will host Topanga Actors Company’s own Allison Davies performing a staged reading of Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking, a play based on her memoir by the same name. Davies brings skill and sensitivity to her reading of Didion’s text. Mike Saul provides original music.

This event is completely free with open seating, and free library parking. Runtime: 1 hour 15 minutes.

Joan Didion was a native Californian and distinguished novelist and essayist who knew Los Angeles intimately from years of living here with her husband and daughter.

References to the city are featured heavily in the play, as they are in Didion’s novels,  essays, and memoir on which the play is based.
