The Topanga Canyon Docents have served as volunteers in Topanga State Park for nearly fifty years. Over the course of those five decades the Docents have staffed the nature center at Trippet Ranch, have led school and public walks, and have served as ambassadors on the trails of Topanga State Park. Unfortunately, the activities of the Docents came to a sudden halt when the tragic Palisades Fire occurred in January of 2025. Following that fire the Trippet Ranch parking lot and the nature center remained closed for nearly fifteen months.
Now that Topanga State Park is open again the Docents are resuming their activities. During June the nature center will be open from 10 AM—3 PM most Sundays. Two Sunday public walks will be offered on June 7 and June 21. The walks will start at the kiosk in the east corner of the Trippet Ranch parking lot at 10:00 AM. For updated information please refer to the Topanga Canyon Docent’s Instagram page: topangacanyondocents.
The Docents also plan to offer docent training, starting in September. The training will cover native plants and animals, geology, weather and climate, indigenous people, the history of Topanga State Park and other topics. Anyone who is interested in more information about fall training should send an email to Jody Spiegel at jodydocent@gmail.com. You will be provided with more information as fall training develops.
