Hurry, Little Tortoise, Time for School

When did you first get the memo that a turtle swims in the water and a tortoise lives on land and just drinks the water. I think I was fifty… that’s really not important to my book review of Hurry, Little Tortoise, Time for School written by Carrie Finison and illustrated by Erin Kraan. You might remember Erin from my previous review of Buffalo Fluffalo

Imagine, if you will, Little Tortoise, who is excited and nervous about her first day of school. She has her school supplies, her backpack, a racing stripe down her shell and a helmet. She is prepared and doesn’t want to be late. Pressure, right? But she has good self esteem for the task at hand and she sets off first thing in the morning. Zip, a cheetah whips by. You know how they are. Then a llama strolls by. No one knows what they’re thinking. Shortly, a pack of lemurs swing by, and even a snail on a scooter adding insult to injury. Still Little Tortoise carries on until she gets stuck which could derail her morning big time. Drum roll for the big reveal. Her new teacher stops to help, and he is… a SLOTH! I didn’t see that coming! Good for Little Tortoise, Mr. Sloth, and readers everywhere. I loved this book. Spread the word, don’t be shellfish… ages 3-7 (and me). www.carriefinison.com and www.erinkraan.com
