Toby Salkin: “Unleashed”

Toby Salkin is known for her bright expressionist paintings, giving a distinct colorful spin to subjects ranging from celebrity portraits, local streetscapes and whimsical still lifes. Toby says her most recent series of paintings began when she dreamed she was creating abstract collages. The next morning she mounted a large canvas on her easel and began assembling the first in a series of works inspired by cubism and embellished with her trademark applications of gold and silver leaf, “to conjure worlds gone by and yet to come.”

The show is called “Unleashed” because Salkin says she feels these are her freest works yet. Salkin paints in her home studio in Woodland Hills, is a member of Women Painters West and teaches collage at the Calabasas Senior Center. Toby Salkin “Unleashed” is open at Topanga Canyon Gallery July  9- 25. Reception July 10 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Gallery is open 12-5, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and private viewings can be arranged by calling 818-458-0303 or emailing tsalkin@aol.com.
