
The Topanga Symphony, the Santa Monica Mountain’s only community orchestra, announces a free concert performance on June 14, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. at the Topanga Community Center 1440 North Topanga Canyon Blvd. Topanga CA 90290. The concert will feature soloist David Shostac, on flute. He will be performing, Concerto for Flute, Strings and Piano by Larry Tuttle, Orca by Jerome Kessler, and Flight of the Bumblebee by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. L’Italiana in Algeri Overture by Gioacchino Rossini and Symphony #5 in D Major, Op. 107 by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy are also on the program.
David Shostac was Principal Flute and a frequent soloist with the Los Angeles Chamber for 41 years, having held that position with the St. Louis, New Orleans, Milwaukee, and Aspen Festival orchestras as well. As a faculty member, David taught flute at California State University at Northridge (41 years), USC, UCLA, California Institute of The Arts, and Aspen Music Festival. Shostac is also an accomplished jazz player, he has performed in many venues, including national flute conventions.
The Topanga Symphony has been presenting free classical music concerts to the public for over 40 years because of the support of LA County Department of Arts and Culture OGP, donations from “Friends of the Topanga Symphony” and local businesses, a grant from the Colburn Foundation, Sidney Stern Memorial Trust, Dovana Foundation INC. and LA County 3rd District Supervisor Lindsey Horvath’s Discretionary Funding Program.
