The Story Hat is coming to Topanga on May 22, 5-7 PM in the Topanga Library Meeting Room!
The Story Hat is an open mic true story slam event, where you drop your name in the hat, get picked, brave the stage, and tell your first hand, true story about yourself, in five minutes or less. No notes are allowed, tell it from memory, tell it from the heart!
Inspired by the national storytelling program, The Moth, The Story Hat is a gentle competition wherein each story will be judged by a panel of local Topangans, with the winners getting a small prize AND a chance to compete in the next Story Hat event.
Rules: This is an all ages event, so stories must be respectful of the audience. No rants, confessions, poems, spoken word, mime, folk tales or commentary. Please aim for an R rating or less.
The five minute time limit is key, so be sure to practice your story thoroughly before the event; include a beginning, a middle and an end.
This is only a 2 hour event, but if your name doesn’t get pulled, there will be another chance! Stay tuned for the Fall Story Hat event in October! For more information contact Wendy Skolfield at wskolfield@earthlink.net
