Originally established in the late 1970s as the Topanga Fish Market, Froggy’s has served Topanga for decades as both a dining destination and community gathering place. After the original Fish Market was destroyed by arson, Lance Roberts rebuilt and relocated the restaurant in 1994 to 1105 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd.

Decades later, Froggy’s is again fighting to recover. Like many local businesses, it has faced severe weather and mudslides in 2023 and 2024, the 2025 Palisades Fire and resulting landslide, and access disruptions tied to Topanga road closures — each narrowing its ability to stabilize.

As disasters compounded, Froggy’s became entangled in an extended Los Angeles County Regional Planning process that began in June of 2021 and left the business in limbo. Disputes over the restaurant’s ability to use parking on the boulevard drew in multiple county and state agencies, including Regional Planning, Public Works, Caltrans, and the Supervisor’s office. What should have been a path toward recovery after COVID instead became a five-year barrier, preventing the restaurant from reopening and limiting access to disaster-related support.

Froggy’s is now preparing for a Conditional Use Permit hearing on June 10, 2026, regarding its ability to operate with a Type 47 On-Sale General Eating Place license, allowing beer, wine, and distilled spirits to be served on-site with food. Organizers will gather community input and support to include in the County presentation. Supporters are encouraged to attend the hearing in person on June 10 at 9 a.m.Froggy’s Topanga Fish Market remains part of the Canyon’s history, culture, and gathering spaces — tied to generations of memories, celebrations, music, and community connection. As mom-and-pop businesses continue to close, communities lose not just storefronts, but local history, identity, and the places that hold them together. Organizers say its GoFundMe campaign will help Froggy’s survive this period and move toward reopening.

Having enjoyed this canyon in the summer of 69 and having just come back in 2019, I really want to sit out on that deck again.

My wife and I have been living in Topanga for over 30 years, Froggies was our family restaurant and a great community stronghold. We would love for it to be back in business.
