On Saturday, September 19, the Topanga Community Center will once again become home to some of Southern California’s creative and beloved vehicles for the second annual Freak of the Week: Where The Weird Ones Win.
Created by Topanga resident and automotive personality Amelia Dalgaard, better known as Motorhead Mama, Freak of the Week is a different kind of car show. Horsepower, price tags, and perfect paint jobs aren’t what earn bragging rights here. Instead, the show celebrates cars with personality and the people who love them.
Expect everything from DIY head turners and wild custom creations to art cars, oddballs, and cars that simply make you ask, “What IS that?”
Dalgaard created Freak of the Week after more than 15 years covering the automotive world as Motorhead Mama. A writer, host, producer, and automotive expert, she believes the most interesting thing about cars isn’t necessarily what’s under the hood. It’s the stories, creativity, and people surrounding them.
The day kicks off from 8–10 a.m. with a locals’ vehicle meetup where everyone is welcome and weirdness is entirely optional. Freak of the Week follows at 10 a.m. and is free and family-friendly, with live music, food, vendors, and activities for kids.
This year, selected Freak of the Week winners will also be displayed at the Los Angeles Auto Show, bringing some of Topanga’s unconventional spirit to a much bigger automotive stage.
A silent auction benefiting Topanga Elementary School will feature automotive experiences and collectibles, including a private Los Angeles Auto Show tour and personalized car-buying advice.
Have something wonderfully wacky you think belongs in the show? Dalgaard wants to see it. For vehicle submissions or more information, email info@motorheadmama.com.
Come for the cars, stay for the characters.
