The Theatricum Botanicum is offering its first in-person classes since the coronavirus shutdown last March. The summer programs feature options for adults and children. All in person classes will be held outdoors at Theatricum’s extensive, shady grounds, and will follow CDC, State and local guidelines for COVID safety, including practicing social distancing, mask wearing, and thorough cleaning. Students are asked to maintain mask wearing (when not working on stage), frequent hand washing or use of hand sanitizer and social distancing during class. Zoom options are also available, for participants who can’t take part in person.
Beginning May 1, Theatricum Producing Artistic Director Ellen Geer will teach a theatre master class in classical theatre for adults on the main stage at the Theatricum.“There is no better teacher of the classics than Ellen Geer!” a press release states. “Professional actors and directors are given hand-picked material from Shaw, Chekhov, Moliere, Shakespeare, and other classic writers to take your work to the next level.”
Theatricum has announced that it will be holding a full range of in-person and online classes for adults and young people this summer, including the in-person return of the popular Shakespeare Youth Drama Camp for aspiring actors 8-11, beginning June 21. The camp includes scenes, monologues, improv, Elizabethan dance and more. The culminating share event will be filmed and available to stream for those who cannot attend in person. Teen Summer Shakespeare Intensive (ages 14-18) and Young People’s Camp (ages 5-7) are scheduled to begin July 26.
Theatricum Botanicum’s summer activities will launch with a “Surprise” zoom birthday party for William Shakespeare on April 23, beginning at 3 p.m. The event promises “games, instant cold readings from Shakespeare’s plays, laughter and mayhem for audiences over age 13, and a chance to ‘dunk’ the Master of Revels!” This event is free, but donations are encouraged in lieu of a gift for Shakespeare.
